Commonly known as a "nose job," rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at reshaping the nose to enhance facial harmony and boost self-confidence. Beyond its cosmetic benefits, rhinoplasty can also correct certain breathing issues and improve overall nasal function.

Closed rhinoplasty is performed through incisions hidden inside the nostrils, leaving no visible external scar. This approach may result in less swelling and a quicker recovery. However, it offers more limited access to the nasal framework and is generally best suited for selected cases requiring less extensive modification.

Based on Materials Used:

  • Nasal Tip (Ear & Rib Cartilage, Megaderm)

Silicone and Surgiform (ePTFE) Implants are the two most commonly used implant materials for nasal bridge augmentation. Ear cartilage is most often used to refine and support the nasal tip. Because it is soft and flexible, it helps create natural-looking contours. It is commonly combined with silicone or Surgiform implants for patients seeking both a bridge augmentation and tip refinement.

Rib cartilage provides strong structural support and a larger volume of graft material. It is commonly recommended for patients seeking significant augmentation, those who prefer using their own tissue, or individuals undergoing revision rhinoplasty. Rib cartilage can be used to build both the bridge and tip of the nose, making it a versatile option for more complex cases.

Megaderm is soft tissue graft made from donated human tissue that is specially processed for safe medical use. It can be used to enhance the nasal tip in selected rhinoplasty patients, particularly for those who prefer not to use their own ear cartilage for mild tip enhancement. Megaderm helps improve tip projection, refine contour, and create a softer, more natural appearance. However, unlike ear cartilage, it primarily provides soft tissue volume rather than structural support.

Common Rhinoplasty Options:

Silicone / Surgiform + Ear Cartilage Rhinoplasty

The most common rhinoplasty option. An implant is used to enhance bridge height and definition, while ear cartilage is used to refine and support the nasal tip, creating a balanced and natural-looking result.

Silicone / Surgiform + Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty

Suitable for patients seeking greater tip projection, stronger structural support, or more significant augmentation. The implant enhances the bridge while rib cartilage provides additional strength and stability for the tip.

Full Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty

Uses the patient's own rib cartilage to construct both the bridge and tip of the nose. This option is often recommended for patients who prefer an autologous approach, require substantial augmentation, or are undergoing complex revision rhinoplasty.

The Rhinoplasty Journey:

The rhinoplasty journey begins with a thorough consultation with our certified plastic surgeon. During this session, the surgeon assesses the patient's nasal structure, discusses their aesthetic goals, and develops a personalized surgical plan. Patients are encouraged to share reference photos of their desired nose shape, and the surgeon will provide professional guidance based on their features and expectations.

On the day of surgery, patients will undergo rhinoplasty under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation (more commonly), depending on the complexity of the procedure. The surgical approach may involve either an open or closed technique, with incisions strategically placed either within the nostrils (closed) or across the columella (open). Through these incisions, the surgeon meticulously reshapes the nasal framework, sculpting cartilage and bone to achieve the desired contour and symmetry.

The Road to Recovery:

Days 1–3
Swelling and bruising begin to develop around the nose and eyes. Mild discomfort, congestion, and a feeling of pressure are common during this period.

Days 4–6
Swelling typically reaches its peak during the first week, often around days 4–5. Bruising may become more noticeable before gradually improving.

Days 7-12
Most patients return to the clinic for splint and/or suture removal, depending on their recovery progress. Once the splint is removed, patients can begin to see the new shape of their nose, although significant swelling remains. Many international patients are generally comfortable flying back home at this stage, assuming a routine recovery.

Days 14-30

Visible bruising will gradually resolve, and swelling will continue to decrease significantly. Patients can begin to appreciate the initial results of their rhinoplasty, including improvements to the nasal bridge, tip, and overall facial harmony. However, residual swelling is still to be expected. It is not uncommon for swelling to be uneven, with certain areas of the nasal bridge or tip appearing fuller than others.

1–3 Months
The majority of swelling continues to subside, and the nose becomes more refined. Patients typically feel comfortable returning to most normal activities and social events.

6–12 Months
Final results gradually emerge as residual swelling resolves. This process can take longer for thicker skin types and complex procedures such as rib cartilage rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty.
